ChatGPT Plugins

As artificial intelligence continues its rapid evolution, OpenAI's ChatGPT has emerged as one of the most popular AI chatbots. With its latest version, ChatGPT 4, and the introduction of ChatGPT plugins, the language model opened up new possibilities for users. ChatGPT plugins are tools designed to enhance the capabilities of ChatGPT’s language model. The plugins serve various purposes, catering to different user needs. In this post we’ll take a look at ChatGPT plugins, some of the more useful ones from a business perspective, and how they can enhance and expand your use of generative AI.

ChatGPT Plugins: Expanding the AI Chatbot's Capabilities

ChatGPT has come a long way since its introduction. With the addition of the ChatGPT plugins, it has grown into a versatile tool that can accomplish a wide range of tasks. These plugins act as extensions, providing additional functionality and integrating third-party services to enhance the capabilities of ChatGPT. ChatGPT plugins serve as a gateway for the AI chatbot to access a wide assortment of data and information. By tapping into the web and leveraging partnerships with third-party providers, the plugins equip ChatGPT with the ability to access up-to-date information, perform complex computations, and even utilize third-party services. The plugins also go a long way towards overcoming some of the known shortcomings of ChatGPT, including the lack of real-time Internet access.

How to Enable and Install ChatGPT Plugins

Enabling ChatGPT plugins is a straightforward process, here's a step-by-step guide on how to enable them:

  • Log into ChatGPT via a web browser. (note, to enable plugins on the mobile app, you must first enable them on the web version. See the additional instructions below for using them on mobile, which is not as simple a process as the web). Note that to use plugins you must be on a paid subscription plan, either ChatGPT Plus for individuals or ChatGPT Enterprise for businesses.

  • Click on the GPT-4 tab located near the top middle of the screen.

  • Access your user settings by clicking on the three dots next to your username or email.

  • Select "Beta features" from the menu.

  • Toggle the "Plugins" option to enable it.

  • Click the "Plugins" button in the drop-down list under "Default."

  • Access the plugin store by clicking on "Plugin store" where you can browse and explore the available plugins.

By following these simple steps, you can install as many plugins as you choose, but have a limit of 3 active at any one time.

To use plugins on the ChatGPT mobile app, you must first enable them on the browser version. Once you have enabled the plugins you want to use, use it in a chat on the desktop or mobile browser.

Here is a step-by-step guide on how to use plugins on the ChatGPT mobile app:

  • Enable the plugins you want to use on the browser version of ChatGPT.

  • Use that plugin in a chat.

  • Open the mobile app and open chat history. You will see the chat you started on in the browser.

  • Open that chat.

  • The ChatGPT mobile app can now use that specific plugin. If you have a few plugins that you use regularly, start a chat with each so that you can access them on the mobile app.
